Faith In Action Volunteer Caregiving to Frail and Elderly Shut-ins in the Heart of Boynton area
Case Manager and Program Director, Michelle Davis-White, delivers fresh fruit and vegetables to our Frail and Elderly shut-ins in the Heart of Boynton. CCC provides services to over 1,000 seniors in Palm Beach County. However, in our target area, CCC has 274 frail and elderly that are shut-in and find it difficult to get to us for services. Our case managers either harvest produce from our Urban Farming Project, or purchase from local Boynton farmers, including one of our incubator clients Aaldmon Farms LLC, an organically certified farmer. Dr. Kehrig, a board member with a masters degree in nutrition, rides from time to time to answer questions and help evaluate nutritional needs. Soups from the market, a mini Meals on Wheels initiative, are included. Staff is able to check for signs of dehydration, malnutrition, and dementia, as well as, piggy-back additional services, including canned goods from the food pantry.
Food Emergency Food Pantry
An emergency food pantry, an affordable food distribution program, access to USDA food, application assistance for food stamps. The pantry is open 9 AM to 1 PM Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Contributions and our Urban Farming Project help to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to clients. The pantry contains various ethnic foods and a kosher shelf to meet the needs of our diverse community. Each fall the center provides a "Holiday Cornucopia" basket for Thanksgiving to 250 families. The pantry is one of the beneficary food pantries for the Channel '5s "Food For Families" program and Channel 12's Project Thanksgiving." Meals are also delivered to us by the Big Hearted Brigade so that we can deliver hot meals to our senior shut-ins.
At Christmas the center provides "Christmas Day Dinner" to homeless and shut-ins. An Angel Tree is placed in the Secret Garden Cafe, and toys are collected and given out to local needy children.
